Heavy rains in Hiroshima, Japan have triggered landslides, which have caused much destruction. Local residents have searched through the debris looking for their loved ones, as a result of the landslides. Wednesday, August 20, 2014 39 people were killed. An 11-year-old and his 2-year-old brother were killed in Asaminami Ward. According to the Hiroshima police, at least 10 other locals are missing, The authorities fear the number could be much higher, because the landslides hit a crowded residential area. Digging with his bare hands, a neighbor helped a mother dig out a toddler, but could not reach him in time. In the last 24 hours the rain pounded the area, the area received a record of 9.5 inches of rain. As of Thursday morning 1,018 people have been removed from the destroyed houses, and moved to public facilities.
